Education and Training:

Fred Siciliano received his B.A. in Social Science, with a focus on cross-cultural studies, from the University of the Pacific, Stockton, CA in 1973. As part of this program, he spent an academic year in India, where he was introduced to Asian studies, non-western music and meditation. In the fall of 1973, Fred entered the California Institute of the Arts World Music program. At Cal Arts, while studying North Indian classical music, under Amiya Das Gupta, a distinguished disciple of Ravi Shankar, he also began his training in Tai Chi Chuan, a movement - exercise - meditation in the Chinese tradition, under Tai Chi Master, Marshall Ho'o. A whole new world of Oriental Medicine opened up for him. Fred received his Master of Fine Arts from Cal Arts in 1975.

Beginning in 1977, Fred spent two years in residence at the International Buddhist Meditation Center, Los Angeles. There he began his study of Japanese acupuncture, western and Chinese herbs and macrobiotic nutrition at the center's affiliated University of Oriental Studies. Also in 1977, Fred completed a one-year training program in Shiatsu and Jin Shin Do acupressure, at the Acupressure Workshop in Santa Monica, CA under Ron and Iona Teeguarden and become an acupressure practitioner. He began practicing at the Acupressure Workshop and in Los Angeles.

In 1979, he joined the charter class of Samra University of Oriental Medicine, in Los Angeles to continue his studies for licensing in acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. This program emphasized both Western clinical medicine, as well as, Oriental Medicine. In 1981, through Samra University, Fred received advanced training at the Beijing Medical College, Beijing, China and completed a second internship at it's affiliated hospitals. Upon his return, he passed the California State Board exam and received his Acupuncture License.

In 1980, Fred met his mentor in medicinal herbology - the late Sidney Yudin, a Russian - American herbalist, fluent in the uses of Russian, European, American, Chinese and South American medicinal herbs. He received a Masters degree in Herbology from Sidney Yudin in 1982, through Union University, Los Angeles. He continued to study and apprentice from him until 1988.

In 1983, after completing post graduate training in acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine, he received his Doctor of Oriental Medicine degree (OMD) from Samra University. His OMD dissertation was based on his training and clinical use of western herbs, and was entitled "The Integration of Western Medicinal Herbs Into Traditional Chinese Medicine".

Beginning in 1978, Fred began teaching meditation, acupressure and herbology to the public through the community college programs throughout the greater Los Angeles area. Throughout the 1980's, he continued his studies in counseling, metaphysics, meditation, breathing techniques and movement. In 1989, he began teaching in Ventura county and moved his practice there in 1992.

Starting in 1988, Dr. Fred began formulating herbal capsules, teas and liniments, based on his training and clinical experience. Today, he prescribes and prepares herbal formulas specific to the condition and needs of each patient.

Following the principles of Integrative Medicine, Fred evaluates a patient from both a western and acupuncture medicine perspective. He tailors to each individual, the appropriate combination of herbal therapy, acupuncture, acupressure, nutritional and dietary supplementation and lifestyle counseling needed. For structural and stress related problems, Dr. Fred utilizes his training to provide instruction in movement, breathing techniques and medical meditation.

Dr. Fred provides access to low cost laboratory services for his patients. He will request copies of diagnostic reports from your physician, and will suggest referrals to family practice physicians and physician specialists as may be necessary to clarify your case.
